By default Windows 8 file Explorer open Libraries view when you open it. If you want to open a certain location, such as My Computer. You can use a following GUID (Globally Unique Identifiers) to open a specific location.

To select a custom location as default to be opened in File Explorer

  • Right-click on the File Explorer icon on the Task-bar  this will bring up the jump list. Right-click on the File Explorer option on the jump list and select Properties from the popup menu.

  • Paste the above GUID (Globally Unique Identifiers) in the Target edit box and click OK.

From now on, when you open File Explorer, it opens My Computer by default.

You can also select a custom folder to be opened as the default location in File Explorer

  • Open File Explorer, navigate to the desired folder, Copy the Full path in the address bar.
  • Follow the Same procedure as shown above and paste the Custom location in the target box to open a custom folder as default location.
