Best Rank Trackers for AI Overviews
Marcus Chen · May 27, 2026
If you only read one line: Ahrefs is the best overall pick for AI Overview tracking right now because it bundles genuine AI Overview SERP-feature detection into every paid Rank Tracker plan without an add-on fee, and pairs it with Brand Radar for broader AI-platform monitoring. If budget is the constraint, Nightwatch is the best value, with AI Overview and LLM citation tracking built into every tier starting at roughly €99/month. Everything below was checked against each vendor’s own product pages and documentation, not marketing copy repeated across review sites.
Most “AI SEO” rank trackers still just report whether an AI Overview showed up for a keyword. Fewer show whether you’re actually cited inside it. Fewer still connect that to your regular organic position so you can see the tradeoff (a common pattern: you rank #1 organically but the AI Overview cites a competitor at position 6, which is functionally worse for you than not ranking at all). That distinction is why this list only includes tools we could confirm have shipped real AI Overview detection, not tools that mention “AI” in their marketing and leave it at that.
If you’re building an AI-visibility strategy around these tools rather than just watching numbers move, read our breakdown of GEO (generative engine optimization) first. Rank tracking tells you where you stand. It does not tell you what to fix, and most teams need both a tracking layer and an earned media and AI-visibility strategy behind it.
The ranked list
1. Ahrefs
Ahrefs Rank Tracker tracks 19 SERP features, AI Overviews among them, and flags on a per-keyword basis whether your domain is cited when one appears. It’s part of the same platform as Ahrefs’ backlink and keyword databases, so you’re not stitching together tools to explain why a page did or didn’t get pulled into an Overview. Ahrefs also runs Brand Radar, a separate product for tracking brand mentions across AI platforms including ChatGPT and Perplexity, which extends past just Google.
The catch is plan structure. Daily rank updates require the Standard tier and up; the $129/month Lite plan gets you in the door but at coarser update frequency and fewer tracked keywords than a mid-size site typically needs.
Best for: teams that already live in Ahrefs for keyword research and backlinks and want AI Overview data in the same dashboard rather than a separate subscription.
2. Semrush
Semrush Position Tracking shows SERP feature ownership including AI Overviews, and when your domain is cited inside an Overview, Semrush records it as a #1 position with a toggle to view rankings with or without AI Overview data folded in. That’s a genuinely useful framing for reporting to clients who don’t care about SERP mechanics, only whether they’re winning.
The limitation is real: Semrush currently caps its newer Google AI Mode tracking to a beta available only on its two highest plans, limited to 50 keywords and US desktop only. AI Overview tracking itself is broader, but if you need AI Mode specifically, budget for Guru or Business, starting around $249.95/month and $499.95/month respectively.
Best for: agencies that need one platform to justify spend across SEO, content, and AI visibility to non-technical stakeholders.
3. AccuRanker
AccuRanker’s AI Overview page is built specifically to answer “am I in this Overview or not,” with a dedicated view showing AI Overview frequency over time, which URLs get pulled in most often, and whether your domain is one of them. It’s one of the cleaner, purpose-built AI Overview interfaces on this list rather than a bolted-on column in a bigger table. AccuRanker also runs AccuLLM as a separate module for tracking presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode.
Pricing starts at $224/month for the Professional plan (2,000 to 5,000 keywords), which is steep for a tool that’s excellent at rank tracking but thinner than Ahrefs or Semrush on everything adjacent, like backlinks or content research.
Best for: teams that want the sharpest, most visual AI Overview reporting and don’t need a full SEO suite bolted on.
4. Nightwatch
Nightwatch tracks AI Overview appearance automatically on every tracked keyword with no separate setup, including an AI Snippet Rank column showing whether you land in the top three cited sources. It also tracks competitors inside the same Overview, which most tools in this category treat as a premium add-on rather than a default view. Nightwatch’s Citation Intelligence extends this to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity.
Pricing is the strongest argument for it: plans start around €99/month for 500 keywords with AI tracking included at every tier, no add-on fee. The tradeoff is a smaller feature set outside of rank and AI tracking; don’t expect the backlink or content depth of Ahrefs or Semrush.
Best for: small agencies and in-house teams that want AI Overview tracking without paying for an enterprise SEO suite they’ll never fully use.
5. Advanced Web Ranking
Advanced Web Ranking tracks AI Overview appearance across desktop and mobile in 170+ countries, with a Google Search + AIO engine option specifically for isolating this data. When multiple sites share an AI Overview, AWR reports all of them at the same ranking position rather than forcing a single winner, which is a more honest representation of how the SERP feature actually works than tools that assign one artificial rank.
AWR’s real strength is granular, white-label reporting for agencies managing many client accounts, not a slick AI-specific dashboard. Pricing starts at $139/month for 7,000 keywords, scaling to $279/month for the Agency tier with white-label and API access.
Best for: multi-client agencies that need heavy customization and white-label reports more than a polished single-brand AI Overview view.
6. seoClarity
seoClarity’s AI Overview tracking is built for enterprise scale, and its standout feature is surfacing the exact user prompts that trigger an AI Overview for a given topic, which is more useful for content planning than a simple yes/no appearance flag. It sits inside a broader platform (Clarity ArcAI) that also tracks visibility across ChatGPT and Perplexity, and the underlying Clarity Grid data layer covers 190+ countries.
This is not a tool for small teams. Full enterprise packages commonly run $2,500 to $4,500 per month, though a scaled-down Core Platform starts near $300/month. Either way, the sales process runs through a demo, not a self-serve signup.
Best for: large enterprise sites and publishers that need prompt-level AI Overview insight and already have budget for an enterprise SEO platform.
7. SE Ranking
SE Ranking’s AI Results Tracker monitors visibility across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, and ChatGPT, but it ships as a paid add-on rather than a built-in feature. Base plans run from $129/month (Core) to $279/month (Growth), and the AI Search add-on is another $89/month on top, so the real cost of meaningful AI Overview coverage is closer to $200 to $370/month depending on tier and usage.
The upside is that once you add it, the AI tracking is genuinely multi-platform, not Google-only, which puts it ahead of tools that only handle AI Overviews and ignore ChatGPT or Perplexity.
Best for: teams that want multi-platform AI visibility tracking and are fine paying for it as a modular add-on rather than bundled in.
What to actually do with this data
None of these tools fix a citation gap by themselves. They tell you where the gap is. If a page ranks well organically but never gets pulled into the AI Overview, that’s usually a structure and evidence problem on the page, not a tracking problem, and no amount of dashboard-watching changes that. Fixing it takes the same groundwork as classic SEO plus a layer specific to how AI systems select and trust sources.
If you’re tracking AI Overview presence and seeing the numbers stall, that’s a conversation worth having with a team that works this specifically. Get in touch if you want a second set of eyes on what the data is actually telling you.
How we ranked these
We started from every rank tracking vendor commonly cited for AI Overview support, then removed any that only claimed “AI-powered” features without a documented, shipped AI Overview or AI search detection capability, verified via each vendor’s own product or help documentation rather than secondhand review sites. Ranking order weighs three things in this priority: how directly and accurately the tool detects and attributes AI Overview citations, whether that capability is included in standard pricing or gated behind a costly add-on, and how useful the surrounding platform is for acting on what you find. Pricing was current as of publication and vendors change plans often, so confirm current rates before you buy.
